Lack of title
I've been starting and deleting posts for a while now. The truth is that real life has been v stressful. I don't really blog about personal stuff because it feels naked in headlights. I'm getting back on the horse and shrugging off. Why examine when I can repress. La la la (tune of Smurfs)

Irish blog awards
I had a great time. The tea party at the g Hotel was fun, fun, fun. Mirrors on the ceiling and a bath that defied expectations. While I didn't paint my nails, I had a great time talking to many wonderful women out on the terrace, partaking the delightful giraffe wine. Didn't even want to really leave to go to the awards but good times there were there too. Though I mostly propped up the bar with a few others. My memories are fragmented but I don't think I met everyone I wanted to. Oh well there's always next year. I did meet some great people and had a number of involved discussions on wide ranging issues. In short, it one of the best nights I've had in quite some time!
Extra thanks to Damien Mulley and Sabrina Dent for organising a great night

Irish blog award nominations!
I got nominated for the Irish Blog Awards. Yay me. Congratulations to all the other nominees.I *sob* just want to thank my parents for making me the twisted person I am today, all politicians for being incompetent fuckers and fueling my rage, and the gross inequities in the world, without which, I might never have been nominated.

Blogging under pen name
The last country I started a blog in was a military dictatorship in the developing world. I blogged using my real name and all was peachy keen for a while. Gradually my posts became more political than social and I knew that I was being monitored by the government - I worked in human rights so we knew we were targets anyway.
I was arguing with a US radical feminist on HIV prevention within the sex worker population and she decided that I was a misogynistic man who was raping kids because I pointed out that her imaginings of the situation was far from the truth. Being a rape survivor myself who worked with vulnerable populations it was not particularly easy to shake off these accusations. She used my real name for her j'accuse and that scared me because there are not any other people in that country with my name. Child abuse by foreigners is taken far more seriously there than in Ireland. I was on the alert for the secret service, after a tip off, but then someone shot a journalist and my accuser withdrew her accusation and apologised, so the matter was dropped after a stern lecture from a security consultant.
Now I blog under a pen name not because I fear the Irish government but I have a residual fear of officialdom and sections within the Irish government who have different agendas.
Now, a year and a half later my heart pounds and I feel the fear I felt then when I saw my statcounter this morning.

It's weird cos I expected to see it. I wrote letters to Batt O Keeffe and Brian Cowen and they were not particularly complimentary. Logic doesn't win against PTSD. I hope that the ministers will t least answer but I'm not overly optimistic.

Headers and such
I've been fucking around with the header on this blog for ages and tonight I finally twigged it. It was so simple. I hate CSS.

Backlinks
Something has gone wrong with my blogger backlinks. Blogger support is aware of the problem but has pooh poohed it. I will follow up with google.
It feels like that time those Bebo bastards sent an unauthorised invitation to EVERYONE in my Gmail address book, including enemies, coworkers and job application email addresses. It was very inconvenient and highly embarrassing.
I apologise to the blogs I am spamming.

Comments
I just had a very rough 10 minutes. The comment feature was driving me to distraction. It wouldn't worry. Now I'm not a techie genius but I do know my way around a computer and the comments would not post.
Luckily it is now resolved by the "hit the machine until it works" school of thought. My family's old TV was the same. The reception got better when one of us hit it on the left side. Someone else had to stand in awkward positions to hold the aerial. It was not the best TV in the world.
So comment away if you feel like it cos I fixed the comments and am happy with my small accomplishments.

First post (well not technically)
I started this blog because my old one used my real name. Since my name is quite rare, I thought discretion would be the better part of valour especially after a well known radical feminist blogger accused me of committing horrible crimes with no proof. That really upset me, which was surprising because I'm not a delicate, special snowflake with sensitivity issues. I'm a fat feminist with plenty of snark and I try not to play in the oppression olympics.
I chose the Morrígan for a number of reasons. She is an Irish deity and I'm Irish (a real one not a plastic paddy). I am very interested in folklore and history. I love the duality of the Morrígan. She is associated with fertility and war, essentially life and death. She is written as terror and greatness. She represents women, a monstrous view of women.
As for me, I'm an overeducated, opinionated, depressed, insomniac development worker. I'm quitting the development biz for a while because of PTSD. I dream of gardening and writing back in Ireland.
